How it all began

Asheville Jet Charter and Management all began with the dreams of a young man on a farm in Kingston, Georgia, where his dad ran a glider operation.  While his father restored old aircraft, the son learned how to work on aircraft.  On his 16th birthday, he proudly soloed in a Luscombe.  That is how Jim Karlovich entered the wonderful world of aviation.

Throughout the years a variety of flying jobs ensued and Jim’s ratings grew to include:  Commercial Pilot, Airline Transport Pilot, Certified Flight Instructor and Designated Pilot Examiner.  He is currently typed in Citations, Lear-Jets, Gulfstreams up to the G-V, and the Falcon.  Along the way his flight experience has exceeded 14,000 hours and he has earned his Airframe & Powerplant mechanic license and inspector license.

Mr. Karlovich founded Jimair in 1988 when he started managing aircraft for owners. Looking to build a more solid foundation in the aviation industry, Mr. Karlovich founded Southern Jet Management in 2000 and based his operations at Marietta Cobb County Airport, in Kennesaw, Georgia. The Asheville Jet Charter and Management Part 135 certificate was acquired in 2004, providing owners with the opportunity to charter their aircraft and offset ownership costs with charter revenue.

Presently, Southern Jet Management manages 10 aircraft, and charters 6 of them under the Asheville Jet Charter and Management certificate. An operation that started with one-man's dream has since grown to over 30 dedicated employees who have similar tales to tell.
